Fifteen year old Andy Lancaster is just putting the finishing touches on her big, new basement bedroom, but before she can move downstairs and away from her pesky little sister she learns that four young strangers will be coming to stay with her family for a year.  Maybe more.  And she is furious that her long-awaited room will become theirs instead.  

While she quickly takes to the younger orphans, the oldest of the siblings, a seventeen-year old boy, is much harder to adjust to.  She finds him selfish, ungrateful, and ceaselessly angry at the world.  When Andy begins to unravel the secret of why he is so miserable toward everyone, she discovers the horror of what may have led the four to her family’s doorstep.

But Andy has a secret of her own because her purity ring from her parents is missing and she’s been making excuses for not wearing it.  Her parents aren’t going to buy that forever.  She knows who has it and why.  What price will she have to pay to convince him to give it back?
